CHINA : An 8-year-old boy in China came out of a coma after 55 days after hearing the voices of his schoolmates. An 8-year-old boy in central China who spent 55 days in a coma regained consciousness after hearing voices when he was shown videos of classmates. Liu Chuxi, a child from Yuyang, Hunan Province, fell into a coma after a car accident in November last year. The accident left him with severe brain damage and lung injuries. Doctors told the family that the chances of him waking up were slim, but his mother refused to give up and took him to multiple hospitals in search of treatment. The doctor said that familiar sounds or favorite music can stimulate specific parts of the brain and potentially wake it up. His mother collected school wake-up music and morning exercise tunes, playing them for Leo every day, Leo’s teacher organized his classmates to record heartwarming videos for him. In the video, a child said, “Chiksi, wake up quickly, let’s play football together.” The girl said in the clip, “We all miss you, Chaksi, if you can hear us, please open your eyes, exams are coming up and we are waiting for you to come back and continue your studies with us.” Another child sang Leo’s favorite song while someone else told interesting stories from class. Leo’s mother played teacher videos and recordings of math lessons by his bedside every day. After 45 days in a coma, Leo responded by moving his eyelids, and a few days later, when he heard the teacher’s voice, he smiled. On the 55th day he regained consciousness and was able to move his left hand. After Chaksi regained consciousness, the teacher and classmates arrived at the hospital with toys and cards and visited him.
