USA : Nearly 5,000 people in the United States set their sights on a Guinness World Record by taking a dip in cold water at the same time. In the US state of Washington, the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce, Blaine Birch Bay Park and Recreation District 2, and Bellingham Whatcom County Tourism teamed up to attempt a Guinness World Record for the most people taking a polar bear dip at one time. When the attempt was announced, the record was 2,461 people. Later, on December 13, 3,134 people in a Norwegian municipality achieved the record. The recent effort in the United States attracted 6,213 registered participants, of which Pacific Multisports officially confirmed 4,917 people had entered the water. Guinness World Records official Brittany Dunn said the organization was reviewing the submitted figures because there were some problems during the count.
