USA – LAS VEGAS : More than 300 human remains have been discovered in a desert area near Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. These remains are actually human ashes, while the discovery site is the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), where commercial-scale ash disposal is a violation of federal laws. The remains were discovered by a local man. The ashes are cremated human remains, meaning bone powder, not cremated bodies. Initially, there were reports of “70 piles,” but later the number exceeded 300, and approximately 315 human remains were recovered. Nevada state law does not prohibit the scattering of ashes on a private property, but when it is done commercially or on federal land, it may violate federal law and BLM policies. No one has been named as responsible for the act, and an investigation is ongoing into who scattered the ashes, for what purpose, by whom, and for which people. Palm Mortuaries & Cemeteries, the local cemetery management organization, has collected these ashes and placed them in special urns so that if there are relatives, they can come and collect them.
