PDMA Punjab Warns of Possible Flooding as New Monsoon Spell Approaches

Urban-flooding

LAHORE – The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a flood warning ahead of the seventh spell of monsoon rains, expected to start on August 13.

A PDMA spokesperson said the upcoming rains could raise water levels in Punjab’s major rivers, including the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum, along with nearby streams and nullahs, increasing the risk of flooding.

Authorities are on high alert, with district administrations instructed to ensure timely evacuation of residents and livestock from riverbeds. PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia also stressed a strict ban on swimming in rivers, canals, streams, and ponds during this period.

Citizens have been urged to stay vigilant and report emergencies to the PDMA helpline at 1129.
