Rome, June 10, 2025 – Following the closure of the voting process for the referendums, and despite the quorum not being reached, CGIL – Italy’s largest trade-union federation – highlights the significance of the participation. Around 15 million people voted on key issues concerning workers’ rights, dignity, and safety.

“This is not a moment of celebration, but it is a significant political and social result,” said CGIL General Secretary Maurizio Landini. “Millions have made it clear that it’s time to change: to overcome unfair laws and restore value to secure, protected work.”

CGIL emphasizes that the support received on each of the five referendum questions reflects how deeply these themes resonate across the country: fighting precarious employment, opposing unjust dismissals, reinforcing safety in subcontracting, and extending protections to more vulnerable workplaces.

“This is only one step in a broader journey,” Landini continued. “Change will move forward in factories, across communities, in public debate, and within Parliament.”

CGIL confirms its commitment to transforming this public support into concrete action—relaunching proposals already submitted to the Italian government and institutions, and calling on all workers to continue striving for a more just society.
