LAHORE/PESHAWAR – Authorities have sounded alarms across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) following heavy rains and thunderstorms that led to two fatalities and injured 24 people in Punjab on Monday night, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

The PDMA warned that stormy weather and downpours will continue across major cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Dera Ghazi Khan until May 4. Southern regions such as Multan, Sahiwal, and Bahawalpur are also expected to be affected. Officials have also highlighted the danger of lightning and landslides, particularly in the Murree and Galiyat areas.

In KP, the Meteorological Department forecasts partly cloudy skies with chances of thunderstorms in various districts. Peshawar recorded 30°C with 55% humidity, expected to rise to 35°C amid strong winds.

Meanwhile, Balochistan remains mostly dry and mild, though some southern areas—such as Zhob, Musa Khel, and Barkhan—could receive light rain by nightfall.

Parts of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Matiari, Sukkur, and Tharparkar, may also receive light showers as a western weather system moves in. Karachi is likely to see gusty winds, high humidity, and warm temperatures.

Meteorologists note that from May 5, the system may draw moisture from the Arabian Sea, increasing the likelihood of intensified rainfall across Sindh. Authorities are monitoring what they consider an unusual May weather pattern for the region.
