Bringing Eid Joy to Patients Away from Home: ‘Hum Sab Ki Eid’ Initiative

Karachi, April 2, 2025: As Pakistan grapples with the rising prevalence of diseases, countless patients find themselves in hospital wards during one of the most cherished times of the year—Eid. For these individuals, the holiday season is marked by separation from loved ones, missing out on traditional celebrations, and longing for the warmth of home.
Eid is a time of togetherness, filled with joyous moments such as Eid prayers, family gatherings, festive meals, and the cherished tradition of exchanging Eidi. However, for those undergoing treatment, these simple yet meaningful experiences are often out of reach. Men miss the early morning Eid prayers and the heartfelt embrace of family members, while women are unable to partake in the excitement of Chand Raat, adorning their hands with Mehendi, and preparing for the festivities. Patients who have traveled from small towns to major cities for medical care also feel the absence of their loved ones more acutely during this time.
Recognizing the emotional and psychological challenges faced by these patients, the ‘Hum Sab Ki Eid’ initiative, supported by Getz Pharma, brought the spirit of Eid to hospitals across the country. Eid was celebrated in hospitals across Pakistan, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur, ensuring that patients, doctors, and healthcare staff could experience the joy of the occasion together.
The healthcare professionals played a crucial role in fostering an emotional connection with their patients, providing comfort and companionship to those who could not be with their families. The initiative saw hospital wards transformed with festive decorations, distribution of gifts and Eidi, and shared moments of happiness that echoed the true essence of Eid.
“At its heart, Eid is about unity, compassion, and sharing joy. Through ‘Hum Sab Ki Eid,’ we aimed to bring a sense of belonging and warmth to patients who would otherwise miss out on the festivities,” said Dr. Nazish Butt, Gastroenterologist.
This initiative highlights the importance of emotional well-being alongside medical treatment, reminding everyone that no one should feel alone during this special occasion. By creating moments of joy and fostering a sense of community, the program helped bring comfort to those spending Eid away from their homes.
