KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday granted police a four-day physical remand of Armaghan, the primary suspect in the kidnapping and murder case of Mustafa Amir.

In compliance with the Sindh High Court’s directives, Armaghan was presented before ATC No. 2, presided over by Judge Arshad Murtaza. During the hearing, the judge questioned the prosecution regarding the number of FIRs filed against the accused, to which the government lawyer confirmed four cases had been registered.

Addressing the court, Armaghan introduced himself as “Armaghan, son of Kamran,” and alleged that he had been subjected to police brutality. His defense lawyer requested a medical examination, highlighting his deteriorating condition. The judge reprimanded the investigation officer (IO) for failing to conduct a medical checkup earlier, stating that it should have been done on the first day of custody.

The IO sought a 30-day physical remand for further investigation. However, in the midst of the proceedings, Armaghan collapsed in the courtroom and had to be placed on a bench for medical attention. The court ultimately approved a four-day remand instead.

Medical Board Formed for Exhumation of Mustafa Amir’s Body

In accordance with the court’s orders, a medical board has been established to oversee the exhumation of Mustafa Amir’s body as part of the murder investigation.

The exhumation is scheduled for February 21 and will take place under the supervision of a judicial magistrate at Edhi Cemetery in Mochko. Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed has been appointed as the board’s chairperson, alongside Dr. Shri Chand and Medico-Legal Officer Dr. Kamran Khan.

During the procedure, the medical team will collect DNA samples and determine the cause of death as part of the ongoing inquiry.
