Karachi Pakistan : I am writing to highlight a growing concern that needs urgent attention to Article 11 of human rights, which ensures everyone the right to adequate food.
In rural areas, many women face severe micro nutrient deficiencies, which limits their ability to
contribute to society. According to the National Nutrition Survey (NNS), 51% of pregnant women
are anemic, 46% have a vitamin A deficiency, 47.6% are deficient in zinc, and 68% lack
sufficient vitamin D. Even more worrying is that 58% of households are food insecure, and only
3% of children receive the minimum dietary standards required for healthy growth.
The Global Hunger Index 2022 ranks Pakistan 99th out of 121 countries. This statistic should be
a wake-up call for our politicians. It is essential that the government and concerned authorities
finally address this long-ignored issue. Our mothers, sisters, and daughters deserve better, and
the time has come for us to raise our voices for them.
