Arshad Nadeem has achieved an extraordinary milestone by winning Pakistan’s first Olympic gold medal in 40 years. At the Paris Olympics, Nadeem, 27, captivated the world with a javelin throw of 92.97 meters, shattering the previous Olympic record set in Beijing 2008.
The nation is celebrating this historic win with a combined cash prize of Rs151 million from Punjab and Sindh. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz hailed Nadeem as a hero, announcing Rs100 million and a sports city in his hometown, Mian Channu. Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan added Rs2 million, while Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab pledged Rs50 million, and Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori announced Rs1 million.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari joined in the celebrations, calling Nadeem’s victory a source of immense national pride. The National Assembly passed a resolution recommending Pakistan’s highest civil award for Nadeem, and political leaders across the spectrum are urging a grand welcome upon his return.
