The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced a significant move to curb illegal activities by blocking cloned or duplicate mobile phones. This decision aims to protect users and ensure that mobile devices are genuine and traceable. In a recent statement, the PTA urged consumers to be cautious and purchase phones only from reliable sources. They emphasized the importance of buying box-packed devices with a warranty and verifying the PTA stamp on the packaging. Users are advised to check their phone’s IMEI number on the PTA’s Dirbs website or by texting it to 8484. If users receive notifications from the PTA about their devices being cloned, they should dial *#06# to check their IMEI number and compare it with the one provided in the PTA message. In cases of persistent issues, users are encouraged to present proof of purchase and tax payment on the PTA Complaint Management System (CMS) at complaint.pta.gov.pk. The PTA also warned against purchasing expensive devices at unusually low prices or without warranties. Customers are advised to contact the seller directly and report any fraudulent activities to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
