KARACHI: Joint efforts are indispensable for the complete eradication of
tuberculosis (TB) in Sindh, stated Shaheena Sher Ali, Provincial Minister for
Women’s Rights Development. Speaking at a local hotel event organized by
Bridge Consultant Foundation with support of Stop TB Partnership (UNOPS),
Sher Ali emphasized the necessity of collaboration to eliminate TB, describing it
as a dangerous but treatable disease.
“We will soon get rid of TB in Sindh, but for this, we must work together and
support each other,” Shaheena affirmed. She lauded the efforts of the Bridge
Consultant Foundation, highlighting its commitment to fighting TB across
Sindh.
Dr. Sharaf Ali Shah, Executive Director of Bridge Consultant Foundation,
delivered the welcome speech, noting their work across 15 districts in Sindh.
He highlighted the alarming statistic that 600,000 new cases of TB emerge
annually in the region, impacting women and transgender individuals
significantly. Dr. Shah also presented effective strategies for TB eradication to
the elected representatives, which were well-received by the provincial
assembly members and attendees.
The meeting saw participation from several notable figures, including Member
Provincial Assembly Farah Sohail, Sikandar Khatoon, Balqees Mukhtar,
Quratulain, Fozia Hameed, Saima Agha, Shazia Karim, and Roma Mato. Other
distinguished guests included Akhtar Shaheen Rand, Dr. Shahzad, Altaf Khoso,
Rubina Badr, Waheed Khatak, Altaf Soomro, Nafis Ahmed Khan and Dr.
Shahina Qayyum of Stop TB Partnership Pakistan, along with key civil society
members.
