Chairman, Pakistan Ship’s Agents Association and Former Vice President FPCCI Mr. Tariq Haleem has urged the Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Syed Muhammad Shabbar Zaidi to appoint a task force/ J.I.T to address issues of under/over invoicing, mis-declaration and smuggling on war footing and all these culprits should be vigorously pursued, caught and prosecuted.
These types of activities should be declared as “anti-state” activities and special courts for these types of “economic terrorism” should be formed.
In a letter to the chairman FBR, he pointed out that this menace is causing massive losses to the national exchequer and also resulting in a bad name for the country.
He noted that none of these nefarious activities can be carried out without facilitators.
He expressed his believe that some of these facilitator types / go-betweens have quite a few F.I.R’s already registered against them they should be fully investigated /dormant files should be revived. This should be the first step, rounding up and prosecuting these facilitators will go a long way in controlling this menace.
Customs intelligence, FIA, all border authorities, ministry of interior, etc should all form special J.I.T’s to finish off this menace/ cancer under the direct monitoring of prime minister. These J.I.T’s should report to the prime minister on a biweekly basis.
He said that these types of facilitators are the enemies of the country.
He said that the association has requested all its members to keep an eye on these facilitators and report them immediately to concerned authorities if they find any clue about them.
