Islamabad : Imran Qureshi is an internationally acclaimed artist whose practice is rooted in the tradition of Mughal miniature art, encompassing figurative and abstract works on paper, monumental paintings and site-specific installations. His work constitutes a unique synthesis of the long-established art form with current issues and the formal language of contemporary abstract painting. He combines traditional motifs, techniques and symbolism with conceptual ideas, oscillating between an unparalleled attention to detail and a gestural energy reminiscent of Action Painting. Qureshi is currently head of the Miniature Painting Department at the National College of Arts, Lahore, which is one of the oldest arts institutions of South Asia.

Scattered yet Together is Imran Qureshi’s first exhibition in The Hague. It will provide a comprehensive overview of Qureshi’s oeuvre, from traditional miniature paintings to multi-part panels. During the opening, Imran Qureshi will give a talk about his practice and the wider artistic scene in Pakistan. This exhibition will provide an opportunity to introduce Dutch audiences to Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant contemporary art movement, while also highlighting the intersections between both countries’ artistic contributions. Ambassador Suljuk Mustansar Tarar will open the exhibition on 23 March 2024 along with the artist and representatives of Pulchri Studio, as part of National Day of Pakistan celebrations in the Netherlands.
