In a decisive response to a deadly attack on Pakistani troops, President Asif Ali Zardari has vowed strong retaliation against any incursions into Pakistani territory. The attack, which occurred on Saturday, resulted in the tragic loss of seven Pakistani soldiers, including a lieutenant colonel.
“Pakistan has decided that whoever will enter our borders, homes or country and commit terror, we will respond to them strongly, regardless of who it is or from which country,” President Zardari declared while attending the funeral prayers of the fallen soldiers.
Following the president’s statement, Pakistani security forces conducted strikes targeting militants in the North Waziristan district, which shares borders with Khost and Paktika. The operation, carried out overnight Sunday, resulted in the killing of eight militants accused of involvement in Saturday’s attack.
Despite Pakistan’s actions, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) issued an official statement denying that Monday’s strikes were directed at their group, asserting that their members operate exclusively from within Pakistan.
