Karachi 07 – 08 May 2024 at PID: The workshop was aimed at not only countering the fake news but it was also designed to sensitise the journalists on Development Journalism, Media ethics and to promote positive image of Pakistan through responsible reporting. The two day workshop was the start in Karachi and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting would conduct such workshops and seminars on the fake news, media ethics etc in Islamabad and other PID regional offices. Participants of the workshop were engaged in brainstorming and interactive exercises on creation, causes and impacts of fake news.
They unanimously acknowledged that fake news and misinformation were the serious threat and must be dealt through fact checking, AI tools, google reverse imaging and source identification methods The workshop discussed the disinformation and fake news in historical perspectives. The cases studies of Arab Springs, US Presidential Elections and Indian Chronicles were analysed to learn the impact of fake news and misinformation on shaping the course of events at that time. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants were awarded certificates and trainer was presented memento.
