PAKISTAN : In Pakistan, women, as well as men, consider physical violence against their wives socially acceptable. Violence against wives has become a serious human rights issue. According to the Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey, 42 percent of women and 40 percent of men believe that a husband is justified in hitting his wife in at least one situation. According to the survey, 32 percent of women and 28 percent of men say that the most common justification is a wife arguing with her husband or hitting him for leaving the house without permission. The acceptance of this justification is significantly higher in rural areas than in urban areas, with regional differences showing that 95% of women and men in the merged tribal areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 63% in KP and 57% in Gilgit-Baltistan agree with the idea of ??violence against wives. The survey found that the tendency of men to abuse their wives has increased over time. The survey found that harmful social attitudes toward wife beating are deeply rooted across regions, age groups, and economic backgrounds. Despite improvements in education and access to information, a large number of men and women still consider physical violence socially acceptable in certain marital situations. These figures illustrate the urgent need for education, urban development, and regional-level awareness campaigns to promote gender equality and resistance to violence.
