KARACHI: Vice Chancellor, Dow University of Health Sciences, Professor Muhammad Saeed Quraishy has said that blood donation is actually a service to humanity, as three human lives can be saved with one bottle of blood. Religiously, we also believe that saving one’s life means saving the entire humanity. He expressed these views while visiting the camp set up at Dow Blood Bank on the first day of the three-day campaign to collect donations on “World Blood Donation Day” organized by Dow Patient Care Association (DPCA).
On this occasion, President DPCA, Ashal Iftikhar and other officials and volunteers, besides a large number of students who donated blood, were present. Professor Mohammad Saeed Quraishy appreciated DPCA’s blood donation drive and said that during his student days, he himself used to participate in blood donation drive for the institution established in Civil Hospital. He said that the profession of medicine is actually the service and worship of humanity, but it requires sincerity and compassion. He advised the students to continue their efforts and expand this circle.
On this occasion, DPCA’s President Dr. Ashal Iftikhar said that we can encourage the medical students to donate blood more by conducting a similar campaign. He appealed to donate more blood for thalassemia and cancer patients to save their lives. He said that this campaign will continue for three days, if there is heavy rain on any day in the current weather conditions, then this campaign will be extended by one day. He said that blood donors are being pampered with cold water, cold drink and ice cream. On this occasion, the camp was decorated with red and white balloons and banners and placards with messages encouraging blood donors.
The students who donated blood said that it is important to donate blood more than once a year. He said that the blood is being collected keeping in mind the possible screening and precautions of all the students donating. He said that the target of the previous campaign has been increased and doubled which we will definitely fulfill, we are also donating blood ourselves and bringing other students to the camp.
