DUBAI, June 17: The United Arab Emirates has announced a public holiday on Friday, June 27, 2025, in observance of the Islamic New Year (Hijri New Year 1447 AH). The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation confirmed that private sector employees will be granted a paid holiday on this day.
This follows a similar announcement by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources for public sector employees, effectively creating a three-day weekend from Friday to Sunday. Regular work will resume on Monday, June 30.
The holiday is part of the UAE Cabinet’s official list of public holidays for 2025. The Islamic New Year is determined by moon sighting and marks the beginning of the month of Muharram, one of the four sacred months in the Islamic calendar. The announcement comes just weeks after residents celebrated Eid-ul-Adha with an extended holiday.
