Washington/ Dubai, March 31, 2026: Former US President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued a stark warning to countries he said failed to support US-Israeli strikes on Iran, urging them to buy American oil and “go to the Strait of Hormuz and just take it.” Trump specifically singled out Britain and France, criticizing their lack of involvement in military operations against Iran.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that countries reliant on jet fuel should “start learning how to fight for yourself, the USA won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us.” He also criticized France for denying overflight rights for military planes supplying Israel.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said Iranian forces are facing desertions and morale issues, and the US has options to respond militarily. Hegseth emphasized the importance of unpredictability regarding troop deployment, while top US General Caine called for Iran to consider diplomacy.
Tensions escalated further when Iran struck the Kuwait-flagged crude oil tanker Al-Salmi near Dubai, igniting a fire and briefly sending crude oil prices above $101 a barrel. Authorities later brought the blaze under control, with no injuries reported. The attack is part of a broader pattern of strikes on vessels since US-Israeli operations against Iran began on February 28.
The conflict has caused thousands of casualties across the Middle East, disrupted global energy supplies, and triggered international diplomatic interventions. EU leaders, including European Council President Antonio Costa, have called for restraint and urged Iran to respect international law and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
US-Iran talks reportedly continue behind the scenes, with Trump signaling willingness to end hostilities without reopening the strait, while simultaneously threatening further attacks if Iran does not comply. The White House is also considering asking Arab nations to cover costs of the US military operations.
As thousands of 82nd Airborne Division troops arrive in the region, Israel and Iran-aligned forces continue missile and drone attacks, highlighting the ongoing risk of escalation despite diplomatic efforts.
