Islamabad, February, 2025 – Ms. Rafia Syed, Director General, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), met with Mr. Harry Hwang, Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific at the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), to discuss areas of mutual cooperation for the promotion of Pakistan’s exports in the services sector, especially tourism, and the development of this sector.
During the meeting, Mr. Hwang reaffirmed UNWTO’s support for TDAP’s initiatives to enhance Pakistan’s tourism potential and integrate it with broader trade and economic growth strategies. The discussion focused on leveraging sustainable tourism to strengthen global market linkages, promote cultural exchange, and develop Pakistan’s tourism services for international audiences.
Mr. Hwang was visiting Pakistan to attend the Pakistan Travel Mart (PTM) 2025, held in Karachi and Islamabad from January 31 to February 7, 2025. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the event, where he engaged with key stakeholders from Pakistan’s travel, trade, and hospitality sectors.
Ms. Rafia Syed welcomed UNWTO’s commitment and emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to position Pakistan as a competitive tourism and trade destination. She highlighted TDAP’s ongoing initiatives, including tourism roadshows and strategic partnerships, to boost exports through the services sector. The meeting marked a significant step toward strengthening Pakistan’s engagement with international tourism organizations and advancing its global outreach in trade and hospitality.
