KARACHI – Sindh Culture Day is being celebrated Sunday (today) with traditional enthusiasm to highlight the centuries-old rich culture of Sindh.
According to details, People of Sindh across the world wear Sindhi Topi and Ajrak, their cultural dresses on this day to show their love and affection with their culture.
Political, social and religious organizations, besides the Sindh culture department, administrations of various schools, colleges and universities have announced a variety of events, including seminars, debates, folk music programmes, dramas and literary settings to mark this day, introduced in 2009.
A large number of people from all walks of life have crowded the shops of traditional Sindhi cap (Topi) and Ajrak on the eve of the cultural day.
Sindh Taraqqi-Pasand Party, Awami Tehreek, Awami Jamhoori Party, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz-Bashir, Jeay Sindh Qaum Parast Party-Bhatti, Sindh United Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, National People’s Party, Sindh Hari Committee, Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Sindh National Party, Hindu Panchayat, Sindhi Sahafi Sangat and others also held different programmes to celebrate the day.
The day was first observed in reaction to criticism of then president Asif Ali Zardari for wearing a Sindhi cap during an official visit to Afghanistan.
