Karachi — The Sindh Food Department has launched a large-scale crackdown on alleged corruption, wheat stock misappropriation, and financial irregularities across multiple districts, resulting in the dismissal of several officials and the initiation of criminal proceedings in cases involving losses worth billions of rupees.
The action has been taken on the directives of Sindh Food Minister Makhdoom Mehboob Uz Zaman, who ordered strict enforcement of accountability measures under the Sindh Civil Servants Efficiency and Discipline Rules, 1973.
According to official orders, multiple food department officers were removed from service after being found involved in large-scale wheat stock shortages, alleged embezzlement, and mismanagement of government reserves.
One of the major cases involves Food Inspector Amanullah Magsi from District Kamber-Shahdadkot, who was dismissed after being held responsible for the misappropriation of over 65,000 wheat bags, resulting in a reported government loss exceeding Rs1.195 billion. Authorities have also initiated recovery proceedings under the Sindh Land Revenue Act.
In another case, Food Supervisor Zaib Ali Magsi of Jacobabad was dismissed over shortages and alleged adulteration of wheat stocks, with financial liabilities estimated at nearly Rs596 million. Similarly, Food Inspector Zaheer Ahmed Brohi of Kashmore-Kandhkot was removed from service in a case involving wheat stock shortages exceeding 188,000 bags, with losses reported above Rs2.099 billion.
The department has also issued multiple final show-cause notices in Naushehro Feroze district, where several officials are accused of mismanaging wheat stocks across procurement centers. They have been given seven days to respond, failing which ex-parte action will be taken.
Officials have been directed to recover public funds, initiate criminal proceedings, and strengthen monitoring systems to prevent further irregularities in wheat procurement and storage operations.
Sindh Food Minister Mehboob Uz Zaman said the provincial government is pursuing a zero-tolerance policy on corruption and warned that dismissal from service will not be the only consequence, adding that criminal proceedings will also be pursued where necessary.
He said the government remains committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and protection of public resources in line with the vision of the provincial leadership.
