The month of Ramadan is going to start on April 3. This is a holy month for Islam, during which they fast and walk according to the principles of Islam throughout the month and fast from sunrise in the morning till sunset in the evening. Fasting is very important then intermittent fasting is such a trend today, it has many benefits. The mind is cleansed and the body is cleansed. If you are also going to fast but are struggling with diabetes then we are going to tell you some ways by which you will be able to fast and will not get sick.
The diet before sunrise is called Suhur and the diet after sunset is called Iftar. Fasting is very important in the Qur’an because it gives a chance to purify one’s soul by removing bad thoughts from one’s mind.
Fasting for a month is a good way to purify our physical system and balance our body and mind, but an empty stomach can be dangerous for the health of people suffering from diseases like diabetes. This raises the question in the minds of sugar sufferers whether to fast or not. Prioritize your religious beliefs and feelings or your health.
Before fasting for diabetes, keep these things in mind
People with type 1 diabetes should not go hungry at all as they are at risk of hypoglycemia i.e. low blood sugar. People with the commonly found type 2 diabetes can fast but they must take care of the following so that their health does not deteriorate. Let us explain what you need to keep in mind-
- Medications such as sulfonylureas and chlorpropamide that you take in diabetes should not be taken during fasting as they can cause low blood sugar for a long time, which can harm you.
- Long-term insulin medication should be taken as needed and taken before dinner.
- It is safe to take insulin for a short duration.
- If the patient’s sugar falls below 70 or reaches 300 then they should break the fast immediately.
- All the diabetic patients who are going to fast during Ramadan must get their checkups done at the beginning and also get regular check-ups done throughout the month. This will not only keep them informed about the necessary precautions but will also help them to make their routine so that it does not have any effect on their health.
