PSQCA CRACKDOWN: ILLEGAL MANUFACTURING UNIT SEIZED IN GUJRANWALA
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Karachi: In continuation of the campaign of PSQCA started recently as a special initiative of the Director
General (DG PSQCA) Dr Sayeda Zia Batool , the Standards Development Centre (SDC) Conformity
Assessment (CA) Office Gujranwala has seized the production unit of M/s Biocos International (Pvt) Ltd.
The operation was carried out under the special directives of the Director General (DG) of PSQCA, aimed
at eliminating illegal and unlicensed manufacturing hubs.
Enforcement team raided the manufacturing premises of Biocos International (Pvt) Ltd. The unit was
found involved in the production and sale of cosmetics and other items without a valid PSQCA license.
Investigation revealed that the company had failed to renew its mandatory Certification Marks (CM)
License for the last three years. Despite repeated legal notices and official contacts from the PSQCA
Gujranwala office, the management continued its production in blatant violation of the PSQCA Act, 1996.
During the raid, the enforcement team took the following actions. The manufacturing machinery and the
premises were formally seized to stop the further creation of illegal goods. Significant quantities of
"Biocos" branded products, along with several other unlicensed brands manufactured within the same
facility, were confiscated. Representative samples were collected on-site for onward submission to
independent laboratories to verify their conformity (or lack thereof) to Pakistan Standards. Following the
factory raid, a market sampling exercise was conducted today across the region to identify and remove
existing stock from retail shelves.
Speaking on the occasion, the PSQCA enforcement team reiterated that no compromise will be made on
the quality of products affecting human health. "The mandate of PSQCA is to ensure that every product
sold in the market meets the prescribed safety and quality benchmarks. Units operating without licenses
or failing to renew them for years are not only breaking the law but are also posing a serious risk to
consumers," stated PSQCA team..
The DG PSQCA has warned all manufacturers of mandatory items to ensure their products are registered
and comply with National Standards, or face strict legal action, including heavy fines and permanent
sealing of units.
