LAHORE: Pakistan Railways is set to roll out a modern, high-tech business-class train service on July 19, as part of its broader initiative to upgrade the country’s rail network, ARY News reported Friday.

The new train will feature 28 coaches equipped with digital amenities, complimentary Wi-Fi, and an international-standard dining car, offering passengers a significantly more comfortable and modern travel experience.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will formally inaugurate the service in Lahore, marking a major milestone in the government’s efforts to revamp Pakistan Railways.

This new addition aligns with the department’s modernization strategy, which also includes:

  • Implementation of digital ticketing systems
  • Improved onboard services
  • Renovated and better-equipped railway stations

The aim is to enhance passenger satisfaction and boost operational efficiency.

In a related move, Pakistan Railways is also moving forward with plans to outsource several services, including the commercial management of passenger trains, to the private sector.

According to a Ministry of Railways official, Pakistan Railways earned over Rs 3.95 billion from its brake and luggage van operations over the last three years — a mix of direct management and contracts awarded through open, transparent bidding.

The outsourcing initiative is intended to generate more revenue while improving service quality through private sector participation.
