Karachi: Pakistan’s chequered history of political pandemonium and inconsistent policies have been the bleakest aspects which have resulted into our failure at economic front. There is dire need for new direction to bring the country back on track. Federal Minister for Planning and Development Prof Ahsan Iqbal gave these remarks while talking to the team of HBL digital banking today. He visited HBL’s Innovation Center and received briefing from HBL Chief Operating Officer Mr. Sagheer Mufti.
Federal Minister Planning said that political stability had proved fruitful worldwide in making the nations economically prosperous. Further adding that his party’s last two tenures couldn’t achieve the desired targets due to political instability in the country. He further said that Pakistan’s future laid in achieving growth and stability in exports. The faster growth in exports would ensure speedy recovery of economy, he added.


He further said that five Es formula; entailing exports, energy, e-commerce, environment and equity was the need of an hour. These five Es will also help making Pakistan food secure country, providing better health and education facilities to people and controlling population explosion in the country.
Prof. Ahsan Iqbal said that Higher Education Commission HEC had been given directives to make sure on establishing IT driven innovation centers at every university in liasion with industries. He further said that skill and education could mould our youth into a demographic dividend. The planning commission had revised the policy of Young Development Fellows YDF, which was suspended by the previous government. YDF was aimed at empowering youth through skill, he added.
The Planning and Development Minister said that today’s Pakistan was different than what was Pakistan in 2015. It took only four years for his party’s government in creating 11000 mega watts of electricity. CPEC used to be the brand image for Pakistan in 2015. But now terrorism and economic fragility had thrown Pakistan into a bottomless pit. “History has thrown us in a crisis, but we are determined to transform the crisis into an opportunity” he said.
Appreciating HBL’s efforts in making bank digital, Ahsan Iqbal said that sentiment and confidence in the market are essentials for the businesses to invest and customer loyalty is equally an indicator for the service industry like HBL to grow at a fast pace.
