Pakistan Moves to Modernise Business Laws as Mobiz Expands Technology Investment

KARACHI: Pakistan is moving to bring its business and trade regulations closer to international standards as the government seeks to improve transparency, digitalise regulatory processes and create better conditions for investment and innovation.
Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Chairman Kabir Ahmed Sidhu said the regulator was modernising rules across key areas of the financial and corporate sectors.
Sidhu made the remarks in a statement issued during the inauguration of the Pakistan operations of US-based technology company Mobiz in Karachi.
SECP Pushes Regulatory Modernisation
Sidhu said the SECP was working to align regulations for capital markets, insurance, non-bank financial services and corporate debt markets with international standards.
He said the government wanted to build a transparent, efficient and technology-enabled regulatory environment.

According to the SECP chairman, continuous simplification and modernisation of regulatory frameworks can make it easier for businesses to operate and expand.
He said these reforms would also support investment and innovation across Pakistan’s corporate and financial sectors.
Pakistan Eyes Regional Technology Role
Sidhu also highlighted the potential of Pakistan’s young workforce.
He said young Pakistanis possess strong professional skills in technology. The government aims to position the country as an important regional hub for the global technology industry.
The expansion of international technology companies could create new opportunities for skilled workers. It could also help strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy and encourage young people to pursue careers in emerging technologies.
Mobiz Expands Pakistan Operations
Mobiz CEO Hamad Riaz said the company has launched its Pakistan operations as part of its wider international business.
Riaz said Mobiz works as a specialist Microsoft partner and provides services globally across eight information technology specialisations.
The company also operates in several Gulf markets, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman.
The company’s expansion into Pakistan adds another international technology business to the country’s growing digital sector.
Focus on Technology for People With Disabilities
The event also highlighted Mobiz’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Shahid Memon, chairman of the Pakistan Disabled Foundation, praised the company for initiatives designed to support people with disabilities.
Information technology experts Jehan Ara and Azfar Hussain highlighted opportunities for young Pakistanis in entrepreneurship and employment within emerging technology fields.
Ghulam Farooq Leghari, director general of the Sindh Authority for the Protection of Persons with Disabilities, welcomed Mobiz’s efforts to connect people with disabilities to modern technology facilities.
He also expressed support for joint initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities for people with disabilities.
Mobiz Head of Data and AI Dr Akbar Gardizi briefed participants on the company’s growing investment in Pakistan.
He said Mobiz planned to provide software, artificial intelligence support and other technology facilities for people with special needs and disabilities.
The developments underline the growing role of technology in Pakistan’s economic ambitions, while regulatory reforms could help create a more investment-friendly environment for domestic and international businesses.
