Mr Muhammad Waliuddin Farooqui (M.W Farooqui) passed away on 14th December 2018 due to natural causes. He was associated with the first Governor of SBP, Mr. Zahid Hussain and remained throughout at SBP till Governorship of Aftab Nabi Kazi who also deputed him as Chairman of NIT in 1978 and successively to ICP and PICIC as CEO, with the approval of the then Finance Minister Ghulam Ishaq Khan.
He retired from SBP in 1983 while still serving for the Government till 1987. He had joined the SBP in 1948. He was in his 97th year. Recently he was requested to do the honours of starting the ceremony to mark the 70th year of the establishment of the State Bank of Pakistan, being the only officer from the formative stage of SBP and witnessing its inauguration by the Quaid-e-Azam on July 1st, 1948. He is the father of Naim Farooqui (CEO of Sindh Modaraba) and Kaleem Farooqui (CEO of Technology Links). May Allah grant him a place in Heaven.
