MQM-P, the political alliance partner of the federal government, is set to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today in Islamabad as discussions over budget support and political conditions intensify. MQM-P Pakistan is expected to present a set of demands linked to governance reforms and development commitments.
The delegation is likely to include MQM-P Chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal, Farooq Sattar and Ameen ul Haque. Party insiders indicate that MQM-P will press for a clear timeline on the Karachi package, restoration of the governor’s office, and amendments to Article 140-A of the Constitution.
According to party sources, MQM-P has already held preliminary talks with Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar ahead of the prime minister’s return from Switzerland. During those discussions, MQM-P leadership conveyed that its continued participation in the federal setup is linked to institutional and constitutional assurances.
The party, which holds 22 seats in the National Assembly and three in the Senate, is also scheduled to brief its parliamentarians in Islamabad before finalising its negotiating position. The meeting is intended to build internal consensus before engaging further with the government.
Political observers say MQM’s-P role remains crucial for the federal coalition, and it is widely expected that the party will continue supporting the budget if meaningful assurances are offered. However, no final agreement has yet been reached between the two sides, and negotiations are ongoing behind closed doors.
