The Government of Japan handed over medical equipment to Al-Khidmat Foundation, Karachi Region (AlKhidmat) as part of ‘The Project for Provision of Medical Equipment to Medical Facilities in Karachi’, under the
Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme.
The handing over ceremony took place at Al-Khidmat’s Dr. Abdul Salam Medical Center in Gulzar-e-Hijri in the
presence of Mr. ODAGIRI Toshio, Consul-General of Japan in Karachi and the Chief Executive of Al-Khidmat
Karachi, Mr. Naveed Ali Baig.
Al-Khidmat has been operating healthcare services, disaster management, education, clean water and other
welfare projects for more than 30 years. It remains one of the prominent providers of healthcare in Pakistan
including Karachi, with a focus on underserved segments of society.
The grant has enabled the procurement of a Laparoscopy, Ultrasound and an X-Ray machine for underprivileged
patients, thus providing them with the opportunity to receive medical care with the latest equipment. As
poverty increases, there is an urgent need to reduce the financial burden on medical services and to create an
environment in which the less fortunate have better access to medical care.
The Laparoscopy and Ultrasound machines were installed at Al-Khidmat’s Nazimabad Hospital last year. This
time, an X-Ray machine has been installed at the Dr. Abdul Salam Medical Center in Gulzar-e-Hijri.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. ODAGIRI said that this project will facilitate the provision of advanced medical
treatments to a larger number of people at little-to-no cost, thereby granting improved healthcare access to the
most vulnerable communities of Pakistan.
Mr. Naveed Ali Baig, Chief Executive of Al-Khidmat Karachi thanked the Consul-General and the people of Japan
for the generosity they have shown to the patients in Karachi. He assured that the donated medical equipment
would undoubtedly ease the burden on the less fortunate and their families.
The GGP is a grant from the government and people of Japan, intended to be utilized for the improvement of
human security at a grassroots level. It is envisioned that said support will further strengthen ties of friendship
between Japan and Pakistan.
