PAKISTAN, KARACHI: Today, the United Nations General Assembly United Nations, comprising 193-member states, has adopted a landmark resolution introduced by Pakistan, on behalf of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), designating 15 March as “International Day to Combat Islamophobia”, It marks the day when a gunman entered two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, killing 51 victims and injuring 40 others.
Ambassador at Large for Global Peace & Human Rights Imam Allama Muhammad Ahsan Siddiqui, Chairman Interfaith Commission for Peace & Harmonys (ICPH) said that this is a commitment by UN Members to fight against systematic hate speech, targeting of Muslims’ religious symbols and discrimination against Muslims on the basis of their faith. The day reflects the sentiments of more than 1.5 billion Muslims all around the world. This is a global recognition of the rising tide of Islamophobia and the need to combat it. Indeed a great achievement for Muslims all over the globe, the International Day to Combat Islamophobia will a clear message against contemporary challenges of racism, discrimination and violence against Muslims, Raise international awareness about increasing Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hatred; and Promote a message of tolerance, peaceful co-existence and interfaith and cultural harmony.
Chairman Interfaith Commission for Peace & Harmony (ICPH) Imam Allama Muhammad Ahsan Siddiqui said that we thanks the UNGA president and countries which supported Pakistan’s stance in the United Nations (UN) Security Council, adding it was good news for all Muslim Ummah and peace-loving countries across the world. We human rights defenders ask countries, global and regional organizations, civil society, and faith groups to organize efforts that increase awareness and curb Islamophobia.
Imam Allama Muhammad Ahsan Siddiqui, Chairman (ICPH) said thatInterfaith Commission for Peace & Harmony (ICPH) will continue to advance international efforts to protect individuals against xenophobia, intolerance, discrimination, negative stereotyping, stigmatization, violence, incitement to violence, and hate crimes based on religion or belief. ICPH support the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.
Interfaith Commission for Peace & Harmony (ICPH) appreciating the unflinching efforts of Pakistan Prime Minister Mr. Imran Khan against the rising tide of Islamophobia in the world expressed the hope that this peace-building overture would have further positive impacts in the future. This Resolution is a great victory for the Ummah; but now we must ensure it is respected and implemented. Interfaith Commission for Peace & Harmony (ICPH) wants to build bridges, promote respect for all religions and beliefs. I reiterate Interfaith Commission for Peace & Harmony (ICPH) call for a global dialogue amongst civilizations under the ambit of the United Nations to promote peaceful co-existence and interfaith harmony.
