WASHINGTON — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Bryan David Tasiguano Leon, a criminal illegal alien and member of the Latin Kings gang, following his release from custody by New York City officials despite an active detainer.

Tasiguano Leon, originally from Ecuador, first entered the United States illegally on November 11, 2022. He was previously arrested for assault and family neglect and had a final order of removal issued by a judge on February 27, 2025.
On February 14, 2026, Tasiguano Leon was arrested by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) for assault. Sanctuary policies, however, allowed his release back into the community instead of cooperating with ICE. On March 4, 2026, ICE officers conducted a targeted operation in New York City to apprehend him. He remains in ICE custody pending removal from the country.
Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis condemned the repeated releases, stating, “Sanctuary politicians must stop releasing criminal illegal aliens back into our communities to perpetrate more crimes.”
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has implemented an Executive Order limiting cooperation with federal immigration enforcement, following Governor Kathy Hochul’s legislative proposal restricting local police partnerships with ICE.
Across New York State, more than 7,100 individuals with active detainers remain in custody, facing charges that include homicide, assault, robbery, sexual offenses, and drug-related crimes. ICE encourages community members to report tips via their ICE Tip Line at 1-866-347-2423.
