Karachi: Rain continued last day with stormy winds in the areas of interior Sindh including Karachi. The rain continued intermittently throughout Balochistan, while the rain caused havoc in Lasbela, Including areas; Hub, Windar, Uthal, and Bela were flooded. In the interior Sindh Including areas; Sukkur, Thatta, Mirpur Mathelo, Pingree, Sanghar, and Mirwah Gorchani, rains caused havoc. Shower and heavy rains in most areas of Karachi. The series continued on Wednesday. The Hub river bridge has been demolished due to heavy rains, flash floods and the Hub by-pass is being used as an alternative, National Highways Authority (NHA) said.

According to an NHA spokesperson the land connection between Sindh and Balochistan has not been cut as the Hub bypass is being used as an alternative to the demolished Hub flyover.

He said that the Hub bypass is 11 km long, and extends from Berout to the national highway. Officials have started consultations regarding the rebuilding of the Hub flyover, he added.

The heavy rains are causing abnormal discharge of water from the Hub dam spillway, which has caused the local government to impose an emergency in the area.

The overflow of water from the Hub dam is more than the capacity of the new bridge built near the Murad dam construction site, a media report states. The excess water overflows from the bridge, cuts the road, and then falls into the river, it added.

Meanwhile, pole of the main transmission line in Hub has been washed away in the flood. It may take two to three weeks to restore power supply to the entire district of Lasbela, while the communication system throughout the district has also been disrupted. Jazz, Zong, Telenor, and Ufone network has been disconnected from another area missing since yesterday evening. Rain is continuing intermittently across Balochistan. Flood water is gradually increasing in hilly rains and rivers.
