ISLAMABAD: In a significant push to improve national energy access, the federal government has announced plans to electrify over 15,352 villages across Pakistan and issue 1.86 million new electricity connections during the 2025–26 fiscal year, according to budget documents reported by ARY News.
The village electrification breakdown includes 8,707 under GEPCO, 2,605 under MEPCO, 1,641 under PESCO, 1,080 under KESCO, 800 under FESCO, 200 under IESCO, and 199 under LESCO.
For new electricity connections, MEPCO will lead with 483,347, followed by LESCO with 387,377, FESCO with 346,126, and GEPCO with 280,111. Other additions include PESCO (120,000), IESCO (100,095), KESCO (22,538), HESCO (20,481), and SEPCO (5,440).
In a related development, the Ministry of Energy’s Power Division rejected social media rumors claiming a ban on multiple electricity meters for single households. In a statement posted on X, the ministry clarified that no such restriction exists, and individuals can still apply for a second meter under current regulations.
