Islamabad : Given the country’s agricultural development and to support Government’s efforts, Fauji
Fertilizer Company Limited has started a program to set up SONA Centres to provide quality
fertilizers to farmers at control rates. The first two SONA Centres are inaugurated at
Sharaqpur and Muridke on July 21, 2024. Rana Tanvir Hussain, Federal Minister for
Industries and Production, Rana Ahmad Atique Anwar, MNA Muridke, senior management
of FFC and large number of farmers participated in these events.
Addressing these programs, Rana Tanvir Hussain, Federal Minister for Industries and
Production said that agriculture is the backbone of our country’s economy and the
government is always striving for the development of this sector. Fertilizers are the most
important component of crop production; FFC’s initative to supply quality fertilizers at
control rates is a very important step for the welfare of farmers and development of
agriculture. He extended his gratitude to the FFC management for setting up its first two
SONA Centres at Sharaqpur and Muridke. He showed his confidence that establishment of
SONA Centres by FFC across the country will prove an important milestone for
uninterrupted fertilizer supply and subsequent agricultural development of the country.
Mr. Jahangir Piracha, Managing Director and CEO of FFC, stated that the agriculture sector
is vital for the country’s economy and food security. He emphasized to the importance of
fertilizers which contribute significantly to crop production and explained that FFC has been
playing an important role in the country’s agricultural development through the provision of
quality fertilizers and farm advisory services since its inception. He informed the participants
of the ceremony that Sona Centres are being established to ensure the timely availability of
quality fertilizers at control rates to the farmers so that they can contribute to the agriculture
development of the country by increasing their farm production. He unfolded FFC’s plan to
set up several SONA Centres nationwide to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fertilizers at
critical stages of crop growth. He further added that besides offering quality fertilizers these
centres will also provide technical training to the farmers and access to new technologies,
enhancing innovation and profitability in the agricultural sector.
Rana Ahmad Atteeq Anwar, MNA Muridke, also praised the FFC management for
establishing SONA Centre at Muridke for the benefit of farmers. He hoped that local farmers
would now purchase quality fertilizers at control rates, thereby increasing agriculture
production and contributing to the country’s self-sufficiency in food production.
At the end of the program, the farmers expressed their appreciation for the establishment of
SONA Centres and reiterated their commitment that with the support of SONA Centres, they
will improve their production and boost their income through the balanced use of fertilizers.
