Karachi,Pakistan – The German Consul General in Karachi, Dr. Rüdiger Lotz, has said that he is leaving Pakistan—especially Karachi—with many fond memories. “During my three-year tenure, I learned a lot about Karachi. I received immense warmth and affection here, which I will never forget,” he remarked while addressing a farewell dinner hosted by the Economic Diplomacy Forum and Hashimi Group at a local club, where he was the chief guest.
Prominent businessman Zubair Motiwala- Chairman BMG and host Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal also spoke on the occasion. The chief guest was presented with a shield by Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal, and a gift pack was presented by Hashmi Group Chairman Dr. Rashid Hashmi.

Dr. Lotz further said that during his tenure in Karachi, he worked to enhance bilateral cooperation in trade, education, culture, and social development. He aimed to encourage more investors to explore opportunities in Karachi. He acknowledged facing several challenges during his posting but said he remained committed to strengthening the long-standing ties between Germany and Pakistan. He also worked to facilitate more frequent exchange visits between the two countries.
Zubair Motiwala noted that Pakistan plays a major role in the textile industry, accounting for 60% of its exports, and that Germany is a key importer of Pakistani textile products. He also mentioned that Bangladesh is another major textile exporter. He praised Germany and Pakistan for consistently supporting each other’s principled positions.
Dr. Farooq Afzal welcomed the chief guest and other attendees, saying that Dr. Lotz’s departure is a loss for Pakistan. He commended the Consul General for opening new chapters in bilateral relations during his time in Karachi and for contributing significantly to cultural, educational, and diplomatic ties. He expressed hope that Dr. Lotz would return to Pakistan in the future in an even greater role.
