ATHENS : The Ellinikon Airport in the Greek city of Athens has long been empty, but is now being developed into a coastal city. New luxury apartment blocks for residents will be completed in early 2027. The airport once welcomed more than 10 million passengers each year, but it was closed in 2001. Now, almost 25 years later, the Greek government is transforming it into a coastal city at a cost of 7.6 billion British pounds. In fact, it is also being called the largest urban development project in Europe. The construction of 9 apartment blocks is underway at this place and will be completed very soon. When it is opened to the public, its area will be about 3 times larger than the European country of Monaco. The city has been named Promenade Heights.
