HYDERABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday granted a four-day physical remand of Latif Akash, the prime suspect in the murder of renowned Sindhi poet Akash Ansari, to facilitate further police investigation.
The case took a shocking turn when Hyderabad SSP Dr. Farrukh Ali Lanjar revealed that Latif, the foster son of Dr. Ansari, had confessed to orchestrating his father’s murder. Initially, Latif attempted to pass off the death as an accident caused by a fire in Dr. Ansari’s room. However, during the investigation, his behavior raised suspicion, leading to his arrest.
Upon interrogation, Latif admitted to the crime. Police also arrested Dr. Ansari’s driver and recovered the murder weapon. Reports suggest that Latif had a strained relationship with his father. On the day of the incident, he first spent time with a friend before returning home, where he tortured and killed Dr. Ansari. He then set the house on fire to cover up the crime before fleeing the scene.
Medico-Legal Officer (MLO) Dr. Abdul Hameed Mughal confirmed that the victim’s body showed signs of torture and deep cut wounds, likely caused by a sharp knife. Sindh’s Minister of Education, Syed Sardar Shah, also condemned the killing, confirming that Dr. Ansari was murdered before the fire was set.
The case continues to unfold as authorities pursue further investigation into this tragic and gruesome murder.
