Jumani Square firing: ABAD Chairman Hanif Gohar demands stronger security for Karachi’s builders and developers.

Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) Chairman Hanif Gohar has strongly condemned the firing incident at the under-construction Jumani Square project in Garden East, Karachi. He urged the Sindh government, police, Rangers and other law enforcement agencies to provide effective security to builders and developers and immediately arrest those involved.

According to Gohar, the firing killed one employee and injured two other people. He expressed deep grief and concern over the incident, saying such attacks threaten human lives and undermine Karachi’s business environment and construction activities.

ABAD Calls for Action Against Extortion

The ABAD chairman said firing at construction sites, followed by the delivery of extortion notes, was a tactic used by extortionists. He stressed that the relevant authorities must take effective measures to prevent such incidents and act against criminal elements without discrimination.

Gohar urged the police, Rangers and other law enforcement agencies to strengthen security at construction projects across Karachi. He also called on the authorities to protect builders and developers and take seriously the threats facing the business community.

He noted that the construction sector plays a significant role in the city’s economic activity and employment generation. Therefore, he said, protecting people associated with the sector was essential.

Security Concerns Could Affect Investment

Gohar said the Sindh government was responsible for maintaining law and order and protecting the lives and property of builders and the wider business community.

He warned that investors, builders and developers might reconsider their activities if they felt unsafe. Such concerns, he added, could discourage investment and slow down or disrupt construction projects across the city.

Demand for Thorough Investigation

The ABAD chairman called on the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the firing at the Jumani Square project and arrest the suspects. He also urged them to take concrete steps to eliminate extortion and prevent further attacks on construction sites.

Gohar emphasised that Karachi could sustain construction activity, attract investment and create employment opportunities only by providing the business community with a secure environment.
