Yemen Army Claims 1,322 Operations Against Houthis, Reports Territorial Gains

Yemen Army operations against Houthi positions in Al-Jawf and Taiz provinces.

Yemen Army reports fresh advances against Houthi forces during the Dawn of Yemen military campaign.

Yemen’s armed forces say they have carried out 1,322 operations against Houthi positions and military capabilities. The military claims the campaign killed or incapacitated around 340 fighters and commanders.

In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, the military spokesperson said the operations also destroyed or damaged 114 military vehicles and pieces of equipment.

Meanwhile, government forces reported territorial gains in Al-Jawf province during their ongoing “Dawn of Yemen” military campaign.

According to the spokesperson, units from the First and Third Emergency Divisions seized Houthi positions in Umm Lafifa, Qurun al-Sabir and Duhaydat al-Aqir.

Government Forces Report Advances in Taiz

Government troops and allied Popular Resistance fighters also reported advances on several fronts in southwestern Taiz province.

The military said its forces repelled Houthi attempts to recapture positions they had previously lost. However, independent confirmation of the reported battlefield gains and casualty figures was not immediately available.

The spokesperson added that government forces would continue their operations while taking precautions to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.

‘Dawn of Yemen’ Campaign Targets Houthi-Controlled Areas

Yemeni government forces began the “Dawn of Yemen” operation on October 5. The campaign aims to restore state institutions and retake the capital, Sanaa, from Houthi control.

The latest military claims come amid renewed fighting between government forces and the Houthis. The clashes have ended a period of relative calm that began with a truce in April 2022.

Moreover, the renewed conflict has deepened Yemen’s humanitarian crisis. The United Nations reported in October that more than 250,000 people had fled renewed fighting.

Yemen’s Long-running Civil War

Yemen has faced civil war since the Houthis seized Sanaa and several other provinces in September 2014.

Subsequently, a Saudi-led coalition intervened in March 2015 to support the internationally recognised government.

Despite periods of reduced fighting, the conflict has continued to cause widespread displacement, damage infrastructure and worsen humanitarian conditions across the country.

The latest offensive marks another escalation in the struggle between government forces and the Houthis, with the humanitarian situation remaining a major concern.
