The Marvel star says Avengers: Doomsday will continue Loki’s journey from the Disney+ series rather than reset the character’s story.

LOS ANGELES: Avengers: Doomsday will build directly on the events of Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series Loki, according to actor Tom Hiddleston, who says the upcoming blockbuster continues the character’s story instead of restarting it.
Hiddleston, who plays the God of Mischief in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), said the two-season series serves as the foundation for Loki’s role in the next Avengers film.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor explained that Marvel Studios intends to carry forward the character’s development from the television series.
“Loki felt like a closure. And when Marvel called about Avengers: Doomsday, it was going to be starting from that end point. So there was no sense of unstitching or undoing all of that development. That development still stands as a place to begin,” Hiddleston said.
Marvel killed the original Loki during the opening events of Avengers: Infinity War, but Hiddleston returned as an alternate timeline version of the character in Avengers: Endgame after Loki escaped with the Tesseract during the 2012 timeline.

That variant later became the central character in the Disney+ series Loki, where he transformed from a villain into one of the MCU’s most important protectors. Along the way, he worked with Mobius, played by Owen Wilson, and teamed up with Sylvie, portrayed by Sophia Di Martino.
The second season concluded with Loki destroying the Temporal Loom, restoring the dying timelines and reshaping the multiverse into a form resembling Yggdrasil, the mythical World Tree of Asgard. He then assumed responsibility for protecting the multiverse from the End of Time while the Time Variance Authority (TVA) monitored branching timelines and tracked dangerous variants.
Marvel originally planned Kang the Conqueror as the central villain of the fifth Avengers film after his appearances in Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. However, the studio changed direction after dismissing actor Jonathan Majors and cast Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, who will now lead the next major chapter of the MCU.
Despite that shift, Hiddleston confirmed that Loki will remain a key figure in Avengers: Doomsday, which begins the conclusion of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga.
Fans also continue to speculate about a reunion between Loki and Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth. Marvel has not confirmed whether the brothers will share scenes in the film. According to current story details, Thor will search for Love, his adopted daughter, before becoming involved in the larger conflict alongside the Avengers, the New Avengers, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.
Avengers: Doomsday will arrive in cinemas on December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars, which will conclude the Multiverse Saga, is scheduled for release on December 17, 2027. Marvel Studios has not yet confirmed whether Hiddleston will return for the final instalment.
