Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to exercise greater control over members of his cabinet, saying that some federal ministers are creating difficulties for the government instead of helping resolve political issues.
Speaking in the National Assembly, Bilawal praised the prime minister’s efforts to engage both coalition partners and the opposition. However, he argued that certain ministers offer advice and make statements that complicate matters and fuel political tensions.
Referring to issues in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Bilawal said political stakeholders had worked to address concerns through dialogue, but a federal minister intensified the situation rather than helping to calm it. He added that the minister has yet to apologise for the remarks.

Bilawal also questioned how coalition partners could support ministers who make controversial statements and refuse to withdraw them. He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is working with positive intentions to steer the country out of its challenges, but conflicting messages from cabinet members are undermining those efforts.

Turning to Karachi’s issues, Bilawal claimed that the city’s problems do not stem from the PPP but from coalition partners represented in the federal cabinet. He accused some allies of misleading the public and said they should either address the city’s concerns effectively or reconsider their place in government.
The PPP chairman also criticised the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) over local government reforms. He said the party appears reluctant to strengthen local bodies and called for empowered local government systems across the country, including in Islamabad. Bilawal demanded local government elections nationwide and said elections in Gilgit-Baltistan should take place within 90 days of the formation of the new government.

Discussing parliamentary business, Bilawal urged the government to secure passage of the federal budget before Ashura, noting that several lawmakers would be unavailable afterward. He said he wants the prime minister to succeed because political stability and effective governance would improve the country’s overall situation.
