The Gul Plaza case has taken a new turn after police included union officials in a charge sheet over the devastating fire in Karachi’s MA Jinnah Road commercial complex.
According to prosecution sources, police have named the plaza union president Tanveer Pasta, vice president Ammar Ismail, general secretary Ameen, and joint secretary Muhammad Ramzan as responsible for the fire incident.

It is alleged in the charge sheet that administrative negligence and failure to enforce safety measures contributed to the blaze. However, the prosecution department later returned the charge sheet with objections, raising questions over its legal completeness.
The fire broke out on 17 January at the well-known Gul Plaza shopping centre in Karachi. The blaze continued for three days and destroyed the entire building. More than 70 people lost their lives in the tragedy.
A judicial commission has already completed its inquiry into the incident. Compensation cheques were also delivered to 61 families of the 72 affected victims, according to an official briefing to the chief minister.
Further legal proceedings are expected as authorities review the revised charge sheet and investigate responsibility for one of the city’s deadliest commercial fires.
