Karachi : A fundraising ceremony organized by the Almarah Foundation was held at the residence of well-known businessman Danish Aman, where various personalities, including Bank Alfalah, announced donations in support of the foundation’s welfare initiatives.
The event was attended by Chairperson of Almarah Foundation Sophia Waraich, DIG Lahore Mehboob Aslam, Head of Essa Lab Dr. Farhan Essa, Zeeshan Habib, Additional Collector Ali Raza, and others who addressed the gathering.
On the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between Almarah Foundation and Essa Lab to enhance cooperation in social welfare initiatives.
Speaking at the event, Danish Aman said that he regularly organizes monthly fundraising programs aimed at encouraging and supporting different social welfare organizations. He added that Almarah Foundation has been actively working in Lahore and has now started its activities in Karachi as well, assuring continued support for the foundation.
Chairperson Sophia Waraich said that the foundation’s welfare work was initiated by her father, Major Rashid, who started the effort with a small center consisting of three rooms for orphan children. Today, the facility has expanded to 13 rooms, where around 350 children are receiving education and a home-like environment with access to various educational opportunities.
She further stated that the “Izzat Ki Roti” initiative, launched to provide affordable meals, is already operating across Punjab and has now been introduced in Karachi. Currently, around 800 tandoors are operating in Punjab where bread is available for Rs10 and curry for Rs50. In Karachi, the program has started with two tandoors, aiming to ensure that people can access food with dignity and that no one goes hungry.
Dr. Farhan Essa said that the low-cost tandoor initiative in Karachi has begun from DHA and will gradually expand across the city.
Zeeshan Habib said that Sophia Waraich has chosen a very important field of service. He added that the institution established by her provides orphan children with education and upbringing similar to what they would receive in their own homes.
During the ceremony, certificates were distributed to prominent personalities, and a musical program was also held. Participants collectively pledged donations exceeding Rs10 million for the foundation’s welfare projects.
