Karachi (March 3, 2026): Chairman of the Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD), Muhammad Hassan Bakhshi, has welcomed the significant increase in the loan limit under the government’s “Mera Ghar Mera Ashiana” housing scheme, stating that the initiative will help meet the growing demand for residential projects and contribute positively to the growth of Pakistan’s construction sector.
He said that increasing the loan ceiling for the Ashiana Scheme from PKR 3.5 million to PKR 10 million is a ray of hope for the public. The decision will benefit thousands of families aspiring to own homes, while also generating extensive employment opportunities and accelerating overall economic activity in the country.
The ABAD Chairman emphasized that the construction sector serves as the backbone of any economy, as more than 72 industries are directly and indirectly linked to it. Increased construction activity stimulates allied sectors such as cement, steel, tiles, paint, electrical equipment, and other related industries, thereby strengthening multiple segments of the economy.
Referring to available statistics, he noted that Pakistan’s construction sector currently contributes approximately 2.3 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). With policy continuity and supportive government measures, this share could increase by 10 to 12 times, representing a highly positive development for the national economy.
Muhammad Hassan Bakhshi expressed hope that the government will continue taking practical steps to promote the housing sector so that homeownership becomes accessible for ordinary citizens and sustainable economic growth can be achieved nationwide.
