LONDON : A mother in the UK has given birth to a baby boy after a uterus transplant from a deceased donor. The birth of the baby is being hailed as a major achievement in the world of medicine. According to a British media report, the medical field in London has created new history with an extraordinary success, where a British woman has given birth to a baby through a uterus (womb) transplanted from a deceased donor. The baby, named Hugo Paul, was born at Queen Charlotte and Chelsea Hospital in London. He weighed 3.09 kilograms (6 pounds 13 ounces) at birth. According to British media reports, this is the first time a baby has been born whose mother received a uterus transplant from a deceased donor. Two such cases have been reported in Europe before. The child’s mother, Grace Bell, an IT program manager, was born with a rare condition called Down syndrome, which means her uterus is either completely absent or incomplete. Doctors had previously told her that she would never be able to give birth. The child’s mother, Grace Bell, received a uterus transplant from a woman who had died in 2024. Describing the birth of his son as a miracle, he said, “I never dreamed that all this would be possible.
