To the Editor,

Karachi, the beating heart of Pakistan’s economy, is now gasping for air. Once celebrated as the City of Lights, it has become a city of concrete, smoke, and unbearable heat. As our industrial hub and one of the country’s largest population centers, Karachi plays a vital role in Pakistan’s growth yet it remains far behind cities like Islamabad and Lahore when it comes to greenery and environmental care.

Every passing year, Karachi grows hotter. Summers are longer, the air is heavier, and the breeze that once touched our coastline now carries dust instead of freshness. Climate change is hitting us harder than ever, and without trees, nature’s own air conditioners, our city is turning into a furnace.

Trees are not just decoration; they are life. They clean our air, provide shade, balance our climate, and protect us from pollution. But due to rapid construction and reckless urbanization, our tree cover is disappearing fast.

It is time for serious, united action. The government must launch massive tree plantation campaigns across the city, industries should be held accountable for emissions, and citizens must play their part in restoring Karachi’s lost greenery.

If we want to survive the rising temperatures and worsening air quality, we need more trees, not tomorrow, but today. Let us make Karachi green again for ourselves and for the generations to come.
