Karachi, Pakistan – 26 June, 2025 – In a major step towards improving girls’ access to education in Sindh, the Government of Sindh’s Reform Support Unit (RSU) has commenced the disbursement of PKR 800 million in education stipends to the families of 220,000 female students through its ongoing Girls Stipend Program.

The funds are being disbursed via JazzCash , which is leveraging its network of over 75,000 agents in Sindh to ensure timely, transparent, and secure payments at the grassroots level. Each payment is made only after the student’s enrolment status is verified, following which the parent or guardian receives an SMS notification confirming eligibility. The stipend is then collected through biometric CNIC verification, ensuring that the process remains both accountable and dignified.

JazzCash, as the disbursement partner, has ensured that the process remains efficient and inclusive for families across 45 talukas of Sindh.

“Girls’ education is not only a right — it is a catalyst for broader social change,” said Junaid Hameed Samo, Chief Project Manager at Reform Support Unit. “By linking stipends to school enrolment, we’re not just supporting individual students — we’re shifting community norms and reinforcing the message that every girl belongs in a classroom.”

With Sindh being the second largest contributor to the more than 12 million out-of-school girls in Pakistan, the Girls Stipend Program by the government directly addresses a critical barrier to female education — household financial pressure. By providing a PKR 3,500 stipend per student, the initiative aims to offset the indirect costs of schooling, while motivating families to prioritize education over early labor or marriage.
