Washington, D.C. — May 27, 2025:
On Memorial Day, President Donald J. Trump led the nation in honoring America’s fallen servicemembers with a solemn and stirring ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, joined by Gold Star Families, active-duty personnel, and senior members of his administration.

Standing on the sacred grounds where generations of American heroes are laid to rest, President Trump delivered a deeply emotional tribute, affirming the nation’s eternal gratitude to those who gave their lives in defense of freedom.

“In every hour of peril and every moment of crisis, American warriors have left behind the blessings of home and family to answer their nation’s call,” President Trump said. “They’ve offered all that they had within them and given their last breaths to each and every one of us — that we might live safe and breathe free.”

A Sacrifice That Endures Through Time

President Trump emphasized that the sacrifices made by America’s military heroes were not limited to past victories but continue to protect the future of the nation.

“Their sacrifice was for today, tomorrow, and every morning thereafter,” he said. “Our debt to them is eternal and it does not diminish with time — it only grows with each passing year.”

He added that their legacy is not only remembered in monuments, but lives on in the strength and freedom of the American people.

A Love That Moves History

In one of the most moving moments of the address, President Trump declared:

“Great poets have written that it’s love which moves the sun and the stars. But here on the sacred soil, we’re reminded that it’s love which moves the course of history — and moves it always toward freedom.”

Referencing battles from Bunker Hill to Kandahar, the President honored the bravery of generations of American warriors who have carried the torch of liberty across centuries and continents.

Leaders Echo the Tribute

Vice President JD Vance also addressed the ceremony, highlighting the personal cost of freedom:

“Consider the sum of all the moments that make a good life … now appreciate how countless strangers gave up those moments in their own life so that we could enjoy them in ours. That is what Memorial Day is all about.”

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth delivered a tribute to the unknown soldier, stating:

“He answered the call, fought, and died for this Republic; the ultimate sacrifice of a free people.”

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine concluded:

“It’s in the lives of the fallen and their families that we’re left a standard to live by — a charge to carry the torch forward with duty, courage, and love of country.”

A Day of National Reflection

As flowers were laid and flags lowered, the ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the cost of freedom — and the deep responsibility of the living to uphold the values for which the fallen gave their lives.

“Every child that lives in peace, every home filled with joy, every day the Republic stands,” President Trump said, “is only possible because of those who did what had to be done when duty called.”
